Success Begins with Pursuit (Part One)

Godly success begins with what — or who — we pursue first.
Matthew 6:33 does not say, “Seek success and add God.”
Instead, it teaches the opposite: Seek God first, and success will follow His will.
The order matters.
When our pursuit is misplaced, pressure increases.
But when our pursuit is properly aligned, provision follows.
Priority Before Prosperity
In other words, pursuit determines provision.
Before God releases prosperity, He examines priority.
Before He expands influence, He evaluates allegiance.
Before He entrusts increase, He inspects order.
Heaven does not respond to ambition; it responds to alignment.
Jesus made this unmistakably clear:
Matthew 6:33
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
Notice the structure:
Seek first — then things are added.
The order is everything.
When the order is right, the outcome is secure.
Throughout Scripture, God establishes a clear pattern that reveals His heart. To understand how heaven measures priority, we must examine what can be called:
The Principle of First Things
Throughout Scripture, God consistently emphasizes the principle of first.
Proverbs 3:9–10
"Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine."
Exodus 20:3
"You shall have no other gods before Me."
God does not compete for position in our lives.
He commands preeminence.
When God is first in our time, our treasure, our thoughts, and our decisions, prosperity follows as provision, not as pursuit.
Three Ways to Put God First
Pursue His Presence Daily
Psalm 105:4
"Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore."
A life that continually seeks God's presence remains anchored in His power.
Prioritize His Principles Consistently
Joshua 1:8
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
True success is the result of consistent obedience, not occasional inspiration.
Prefer His Will Over Personal Ambition
Proverbs 3:5–6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
When we trust God fully, He guides our direction faithfully.
Conclusion
True success begins when God is first, not fitted in.
When He holds the highest place in our lives, everything else falls into proper order. Prosperity then becomes the result of alignment, not the product of striving.
Seek Him first — and watch how everything else finds its rightful place.
What area of your life needs realignment so that God truly comes first?
