THE TRUE GIFTS OF CHRISTMAS: THE MEANING BEHIND THE MANGER

The Gift of His Power (God Through Us) – Part Three

Acts 1:8

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

The story of Christmas doesn’t end at the cradle or even at the cross. It continues with a commission. The child born for us grew to die for us, and now lives to work through us. The same power that conceived Christ in Mary now empowers Christ’s followers for ministry and mission. The Spirit who hovered over the manger now abides within believers.

When Christ was born to us, we received salvation. When the Holy Spirit came upon us, we received strength. This gift of power equips us with divine ability, spiritual authority, and holy anointing—to live boldly, love deeply, and serve faithfully.

One: Power to Overcome (Victory Over the Flesh and Fear)

2 Timothy 1:7

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

When Jesus fills your heart, the Holy Spirit fuels your strength.

  • Power to Conquer Temptation: The Spirit strengthens your inner being to say no to sin and yes to God. Power doesn’t mean perfection—it means steady progression by His presence.

  • Power to Crush Fear: The Spirit silences intimidation and replaces it with courage. Fear says, “You can’t.” Faith declares, “God already has.”

Peter once denied Jesus before a servant girl. Yet after receiving the power of the Holy Spirit, he preached boldly to thousands. The difference wasn’t confidence or charisma—it was power.

Two: Power to Obey (Strength to Walk in God’s Will)

Philippians 2:13

“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.”

  • Power to Live Holy: The Spirit sanctifies us daily, shaping our character and aligning our desires with God’s will.

  • Power to Endure Trials: The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. His power doesn’t always remove the fire—but it refines you through it.

  • Power to Produce Fruit: Galatians 5 reminds us that love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control are not products of human effort, but evidence of Spirit power.

God’s power supplies everything God’s purpose requires.

Three: Power to Overflow (Influence for the Kingdom)

1 Corinthians 2:4

“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.”

The power of the Holy Spirit flows through us so the world can see Christ in us.

  • Power to Witness: You don’t have to be eloquent to be effective; you just need to be empowered. The Spirit provides boldness and wisdom.

  • Power to Serve: Power doesn’t only proclaim; it pours. It kneels to lift others. Jesus washed feet not from weakness, but from the strength of divine love.

  • Power to Heal and Restore: Through your words, prayers, and compassion, the Spirit brings comfort, courage, and restoration to broken lives.

In Conclusion

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead resides in you right now. The Christmas story began with a miracle birth; your story continues with a miracle life.

When God’s Presence is with you, His Peace guards you, His Purpose directs you, and His Power works through you, so that the world may encounter Christ through your life.
