Psalm 118:8-9
"It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes."
We all need this reminder: too often, we rely on ourselves to meet our needs. We plan, hustle, and stress—believing it’s all up to us. But God wants to be more than a backup plan. He wants to be our source.
God Over Mammon
Matthew 6:24-34 gives us a clear picture. Jesus says we cannot serve both God and money. He challenges us to let go of worry and instead trust in God’s provision.
He points to the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. They don’t toil or stress, yet they are fed and clothed with beauty. If God takes care of them, how much more will He take care of you?
“Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (v. 33)
When we truly recognize that God is the source of our lives—our strength, provision, and future—it changes how we live.
STEP ONE: LET GO OF THE BAGGAGE
We often think of “baggage” as just sin. But baggage is anything that holds us back from receiving all that God has for us. One of the biggest pieces of baggage? Worry.
Worry comes when we start depending on our own abilities and resources to carry us through. But God cares deeply about everything that concerns us.
Psalm 37:5 — “Commit your way to the Lord; trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”Psalm 55:22 — “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.”1 Peter 5:7 — “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
When you believe God is your source, handing over your fears, pressures, and anxieties becomes easier. You don’t have to carry it all—He’s already offered to carry it for you.
STEP TWO: TRUST HIM COMPLETELY
Over and over again, Scripture calls us to put our trust in God. David, who faced countless enemies and trials, understood this deeply:
Psalm 56:3-4 — “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You... In God I have put my trust; I will not fear.”
David could trust because he knew where his help came from. He knew God was his source, and because of that, he lived with bold confidence.
Psalm 32:10 — “Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him.”Isaiah 26:3 — “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
Trusting God is not a one-time decision. It’s a daily surrender. It’s choosing to believe that He knows your needs better than you do—and that He will provide in His perfect time and way.
Whether you are in a season of plenty or a season of lack, remind yourself daily:
God is your Source.
Every blessing you have, every opportunity, every breakthrough—it all flows from Him. And when life feels uncertain, His faithfulness remains the anchor for your soul.
So today, release the baggage, trust in His promises, and walk in the confidence that God is your source—and He will never fail you.
