Practicing Daily Time in God's Word (Part Two)

Joshua 1:8

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."

One of the greatest gifts God has given us is His Word. Through Scripture, He teaches us, corrects us, encourages us, and reveals His heart. Yet many believers desire spiritual growth while neglecting one of the very things God uses to produce it.

The Bible is not just a book to read when life becomes difficult. It is meant to shape the way we think, live, and follow Christ every day. As we consistently spend time in God's Word, we gain wisdom for life's decisions, strength for life's challenges, and confidence in God's promises.

Here are three reasons why daily time in Scripture is essential.

God's Word Directs Our Path

Life is filled with decisions, and we all need God's guidance. Psalm 119:105 reminds us, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." God's Word may not reveal every detail of the future, but it faithfully lights the next step.

Many regrets begin with decisions made apart from God's wisdom. As we read Scripture consistently, our perspective begins to change. We learn to see situations through God's truth instead of our emotions, and His wisdom helps us recognize the right path to take.

God's Word Shapes Our Character

God is not only concerned about where we are going. He is also concerned about who we are becoming.

As we spend time in Scripture, the Holy Spirit uses God's Word to reveal areas where we need to grow. It gently exposes wrong attitudes, strengthens godly character, and teaches us how to live in a way that honors Christ.

Over time, God's Word produces qualities such as humility, patience, integrity, faithfulness, and self-control. The more we allow Scripture to shape our hearts, the more our lives begin to reflect the character of Jesus.

God's Word Strengthens Our Faith

Every believer will face seasons of uncertainty, disappointment, and spiritual battles. During those moments, our faith must rest on something stronger than our circumstances.

Romans 10:17 tells us, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Every time we read God's Word, our confidence in His promises grows stronger.

When challenges come, believers who have stored God's Word in their hearts have truth to stand on. They remember His faithfulness, hold on to His promises, and continue trusting Him even when they cannot yet see the outcome.

Daily time in Scripture prepares us long before we face life's difficult moments.

In Closing

God's Word was never meant to be an occasional part of our lives. It is daily bread for every believer. As we meditate on it, obey it, and apply it, God gives us wisdom for every decision, strength for every challenge, and direction for every season.

This week, set aside time each day to read God's Word. Even a few consistent minutes can deepen your relationship with God and strengthen your walk with Him. As you make His Word a daily priority, you'll discover that He faithfully guides, shapes, and equips you for everything He has called you to do.
