Scripture: John 10:10

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

When people hear the phrase abundant living, they often think of wealth, success, and material possessions. While God blesses His people in many ways, the abundant life Jesus promised goes far beyond what we own or achieve.

It is a life filled with His presence, guided by His purpose, strengthened by His peace, and sustained by His joy. Abundant living is not measured by how much we possess but by how deeply we know Christ and how faithfully we follow Him.

It is possible to have many possessions and still feel empty, or to have little and experience the fullness of God's grace. Jesus came to give us more than mere existence. He offers a life rooted in Him, one that transforms how we think, live, relate to others, and face each day.

So, what does it mean to live the abundant life Jesus promised? It begins with four foundational pillars. Today, we will explore the first.

Pillar One: Pursue Christ

Matthew 6:33

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

1. Make Christ Your Highest Priority

Abundant living begins when Jesus takes first place in our hearts. It is easy to become consumed by careers, possessions, personal ambitions, and even good responsibilities, allowing our relationship with Christ to take a back seat.

But Jesus reminds us to seek God's Kingdom first. This means making Christ the centre of our decisions, relationships, ambitions, and everyday lives.

When we put Him first, our priorities begin to change. Our values become aligned with His Word, our decisions are shaped by His wisdom, and our ambitions are guided by His purpose. We stop allowing temporary things to define our lives and begin to pursue what has lasting value.

Making Christ our priority does not mean neglecting our responsibilities. It means allowing Him to guide how we approach them.

When Christ comes first, everything else finds its proper place.

2. Deepen Your Daily Relationship with Him

A relationship grows through consistent time, attention, and communication. Our relationship with Christ is no different. We cannot expect to grow closer to Him while continually neglecting time in His presence.

The abundant life is cultivated daily through prayer, worship, studying God's Word, and living in obedience to His guidance. As we remain connected to Christ, He continues to shape our hearts and transform us from within.

We begin to experience His peace in uncertain moments, His strength when we feel weak, and His wisdom when faced with difficult decisions. This does not mean that every challenge will disappear, but it means we have Christ with us through every season.

Do not allow your relationship with God to become something you attend to only when you need help. Make Him part of your everyday life. Spend time with Him, listen to His Word, and allow His truth to influence how you live.

The closer you walk with Christ, the more your life reflects His character and purpose.

Abundance Begins with Christ

The abundant life Jesus promised does not begin with what we acquire but with whom we pursue. When Christ becomes the foundation of our lives, we discover a deeper sense of purpose, lasting fulfilment, and the grace to navigate every season.

Make Him your highest priority. Invest in your relationship with Him daily. Let your life be shaped by His presence and guided by His Word.

This is the first pillar of abundant living: Pursue Christ.

Join us next time as we explore the second pillar and continue discovering what it means to live the life Jesus promised.
