Matthew 6:33
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
In a world filled with endless distractions, competing priorities, and constant demands, it is easy to spend our lives chasing things that never truly satisfy. Many pursue success, possessions, or recognition, believing these will bring lasting fulfillment. Yet Jesus points us to a better way. He teaches that the key to a fruitful and meaningful life is not found in pursuing more things, but in pursuing God first.
God created us for a relationship with Him. When He becomes our highest priority, everything else begins to find its proper place. Pursuing God above everything else calls us to make three important commitments.
Pursue God's Presence Daily
One of the greatest privileges we have as believers is the opportunity to walk with God every day. He does not desire an occasional visit from His children. He desires a close and ongoing relationship with us.
Throughout Scripture, we see men and women who valued God's presence above everything else. Moses understood that God's presence was far more valuable than the Promised Land itself. He knew that without God, every blessing would lose its true meaning.
Many of us pray for God's provision, protection, and favor, yet neglect the relationship that makes those blessings meaningful. As we spend time with Him through prayer, worship, and His Word, we discover His peace, wisdom, strength, and direction for every season of life. Every pursuit of God begins with a desire to know Him more deeply.
Pursue God's Priorities Consistently
To pursue God is to make His priorities our own. His plans must take precedence over our ambitions, preferences, and personal goals.
Many of life's frustrations come from chasing things God never intended to be our primary focus. But when we seek His Kingdom first, our perspective begins to change. Our decisions become guided by His truth, our goals align with His purpose, and we invest our time and energy in what has eternal value.
A life centered on God's priorities is a life marked by clarity, peace, and purpose.
Pursue God's Purpose Faithfully
God has not only saved us from something. He has saved us for something. Each of us has been entrusted with gifts, opportunities, and influence that can be used for His glory.
Too often, people spend their lives comparing themselves with others instead of embracing the calling God has given them. When we pursue His purpose, our focus shifts from asking, "What do I want from life?" to asking, "Lord, what do You want to do through my life?"
That simple change in perspective transforms the way we live.
The greatest pursuit of your life should never be success, wealth, recognition, or achievement. Those things may come and go, but God remains faithful and eternal.
Jesus promised that when we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, everything else finds its proper place. The secret to a life of lasting fulfillment is not chasing blessings. It is pursuing the One from whom every blessing flows.
