Success Requires Stewardship

Luke 16:10

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”

Most people pray for more.

More opportunities. More influence. More money. More favor. More blessings.

But before God entrusts us with more, He often examines how we are handling what we already have.

The Kingdom of God operates differently from the world. The world emphasizes ownership, but God emphasizes stewardship. Everything we possess, our time, talents, resources, relationships, opportunities, and spiritual gifts, ultimately belongs to Him.

Biblical success is not simply measured by how much we accumulate, but by how faithfully we manage what God has entrusted to us.

Throughout Scripture, we see God developing faithful people before expanding their responsibilities. David faithfully tended sheep before he led a nation. Joseph faithfully managed Potiphar’s household before he was entrusted with leadership over Egypt. The disciples faithfully followed Jesus and served others before becoming witnesses who carried the Gospel to the nations.

God is interested not only in what He can place in our hands, but in whether He can trust us with what He has already placed there.

Success requires stewardship, and faithful stewardship begins with two important areas.

1. Steward Your Responsibilities Faithfully

Everything God places in our hands is an opportunity to glorify Him.

Faithfulness is not always glamorous. Often, it looks like showing up consistently, honoring our commitments, serving with excellence, and doing the right thing when no one is watching.

Before promotion comes preparation. God can use small assignments to develop the character and discipline required for greater responsibilities.

Whether it is our home, workplace, church, or community, every responsibility gives us an opportunity to demonstrate that we can be trusted.

Colossians 3:23–24

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

Remember, God notices faithfulness long before people do.

2. Steward Your Resources Wisely

God is the Owner; we are the managers.

Every dollar, ability, opportunity, relationship, and spiritual gift we have is something God has entrusted to us. Wise stewardship means asking:

“Lord, how can I use what You have given me to serve Your purposes?”

Psalm 24:1

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

Stewardship is about recognizing that what we have is not ultimately ours. Our responsibility is to use it wisely, faithfully, and in a way that honors God.

Success is not determined simply by what is in your hands. It is also determined by what you do with what God has placed there.

When we faithfully manage today’s responsibilities and resources, we develop the character needed for tomorrow’s opportunities.

Conclusion

So remember:

Steward the little things well.

Steward God’s resources wisely.

Be faithful with what is already in your hands.

Because success requires stewardship, and faithful stewardship allows us to make a greater Kingdom impact with whatever God entrusts to us.
