The Barrier of Wrong Priorities (Part Four)

Matthew 6:33 — “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Many believers give their best effort, yet still feel unfulfilled or frustrated. The reason isn’t always lack of hard work — sometimes, it’s misplaced focus. What we value most determines what we experience. When God isn’t first, everything else falls out of order, and His best cannot flow freely into our lives.
God desires that we live in abundance, but when our priorities center around career, comfort, possessions, or even relationships above Him, we unintentionally block His blessings.
Imagine a man trying to fill a bucket with water from a flowing river. But before placing it under the stream, he fills it with muddy soil. No matter how long he scoops, the bucket never fills with clean water. That’s what happens when our priorities are wrong — we fill our lives with things that don’t truly satisfy, leaving no room for what God wants to pour in.
Let’s look at how wrong priorities affect us:
1. Misaligned Priorities Distort God’s Purpose.
When we fix our hearts on the temporary, we lose sight of the eternal. Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Wrong priorities blur our vision and keep us from walking in God’s divine calling.
2. Misplaced Priorities Hinder God’s Provision.
God’s promise of provision is tied to putting Him first. He won’t compete with our distractions. When we honor Him with our time, finances, and decisions, everything else begins to align.
3. Wrong Priorities Block Spiritual Growth.
Our relationship with God deepens through prayer, worship, and obedience. When these take a backseat to personal ambitions or daily busyness, spiritual maturity stalls. As Jesus said in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters.”
Keys to Overcoming Wrong Priorities
Assess Your Life: Identify what consistently gets your time, energy, and attention.
Reorder Around God: Make Him first in every choice — from your schedule to your goals.
Invest in Eternal Things: Focus on impact that outlives you — the Kingdom over convenience.
In the end, wrong priorities act like roadblocks on the path to God’s best. But when we realign our hearts and put Him first, peace replaces pressure, clarity replaces confusion, and His blessings flow naturally.
Make God your first love, your first focus, and your first pursuit — and watch how everything else falls beautifully into place.
