The Gift of His Presence — God With Us (Part One)
Every December, the world rushes into wrapping paper, ribbons, and retail sales. Shopping lists grow longer, lights shine brighter, yet hearts often feel emptier. We celebrate with abundance but sometimes overlook the abundance that truly matters.
Christmas is not about the gifts placed under a tree — it is about the Gift who later hung upon a tree. The real treasures of Christmas cannot be bought in stores, placed in carts, or delivered in packages. They are received freely, by grace, through Jesus Christ Himself.
So today, let’s unwrap the first true gift of Christmas: the gift of His Presence — God with us.
1. His Presence Comforts Us
Matthew 1:23 — “They shall call His name Immanuel,” which means, God with us.
When Jesus stepped into our world, Heaven stepped close. The manger in Bethlehem was more than a birthplace — it was a divine bridge between God and humanity.
The presence of God doesn’t always remove the pain, but it redeems it. It doesn’t always erase the struggle, but it assures us: You are not alone in it.
“Immanuel” is Heaven’s declaration that loneliness no longer has the final word.
2. His Presence Brings Calm in Chaos
Life often unravels in ways we don’t expect. Storms rise. Pressure builds. Anxiety whispers. But in the midst of chaos, His presence becomes the anchor of your soul.
Think of the disciples in Mark 4. The storm was fierce, the waves overwhelming — yet Jesus was in the boat. The storm didn’t wake Him, but their worry did.
When they turned to Him, His presence brought peace. The same presence that calmed the sea still calms the human heart.Your storm may not go silent immediately, but His presence will steady your soul while it rages.
3. His Presence Gives Courage in the Valley
David never said he would avoid the valley — he said he would fear no evil because God was with him.
Psalm 23:4 — “For You are with me.”
God’s presence doesn’t promise a life without valleys, battles, or shadows. But it guarantees victory through them.
Every valley becomes a stage for God’s faithfulness.
The Shepherd never sends you where He Himself won’t walk. His presence doesn’t remove the valley — it transforms it into a place of growth, grace, and deeper trust.
4. His Presence Brings Comfort in the Waiting
Sometimes God’s presence is not a shout but a stillness. Not a dramatic miracle but a quiet assurance.
Elijah learned this in 1 Kings 19. God wasn’t in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire — but in the gentle whisper.
That whisper is the comfort of His presence.
When prayers seem unanswered and doors remain closed, His presence whispers:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
His presence is not confined to church buildings.
It walks into hospital rooms.
It enters broken homes.
It sits with you in lonely nights.
It stands with you in waiting seasons.
The nearness of God is not seasonal — it is eternal.
Conclusion
This Christmas, may you remember: the greatest gift is not wrapped in paper but wrapped in flesh — Jesus Christ, God with us.
His presence comforts, calms, encourages, and carries you.And His promise remains the same: You will never walk alone again.
